Land Rover fans have been anxiously awaiting the news of what will be next for the Defender. In honor of Land Rover’s 70th anniversary, they will be releasing a limited special edition of the world-renowned vehicle as a tribute to the historic V8 Defenders.
The Defender Works V8 is a powerhouse SUV with a colossal 400 horsepower and 380 lb-feet of torque. This is certainly a huge jump from the 120 horsepower offered in the standard Defender models. Land Rover quoted a 0-60 time span of 5.6 seconds with a top speed of 106 miles per hour. Rest assured, this is plenty of speed for the nostalgic British icon.
The inspiration for the vehicle was first brought up in 2014 while the original Defender was still active in the Land Rover lineup. The company listened to feedback from consumers with the need for a Defender packing extra power and speed.
The automatic 8-speed comes with a Sport mode, larger brakes, 18-inch alloy rims, all-terrain tires, dampers and anti-roll bars to help stabilize the frame. Land Rover will likely be offering the 90 and 110 variants for the chassis body style.
The Defender Works is the fastest Defender ever created and is expected to launch later this year. With eight different body colors to choose from and Bi-LED headlights, the exterior is sure to impress just as much as the haymaker engine. The interior will be featuring sleek Recaro sports seat, Land Rover’s signature infotainment system and Windsor leather styling.
Not only is Land Rover celebrating 70 years of history, we can expect more excitement along the way when it comes to electrification and new releases from the brand.
