Land Rover Austin in Austin, Texas along with Land Rover USA would like to proudly announce the arrival of the Discovery Vision Concept car that swept the 2014 New York International Auto Show last month!
The Discovery Vision Concept will showcase the essence of a future family of SUVs built on Land Rover’s key principles of emotive design, unrivalled capability and ultimate versatility, taken to new levels using new customer-focused advanced technologies.
This astonishing new Concept vehicle features “Transparent Hood” virtual imaging technology which is designed as an aid in off-road driving and tight spaces. Using camera images projected onto a full width heads up display at the bottom of the windshield, this technology provides visibility of what is underneath and directly front of the car, with visualizations of otherwise hidden obstacles. Advanced technology is being developed at Land Rover to create a digital view of the terrain ahead by making the front of the car ‘virtually’ invisible. Cameras located at the front of the vehicle capture data and are used to feed a Heads-Up Display across the bottom of the windshield, effectively creating a ‘see-through’ view of the terrain through the hood and engine bay, breaking new ground in visual driver assistance.
“Discovery has been pivotal in helping to build the foundations of the Land Rover brand,” said Gerry McGovern, Design Director and Chief Creative Officer for Land Rover. “It is admired all over the world and loved by its strong customer base. We have created the Vision Concept to share the essence of Land Rover’s new age of Discovery and to debut a new, compelling, relevant design direction that connects on an emotional level with customers of today and tomorrow.”
