Invictus Games Driving Challenge

The Invictus Games Toronto 2017 are in full swing! As the presenting partner for the games, Jaguar Land Rover kicked them off on Saturday, September 23 with the Jaguar Land Rover Driving Challenge.

The Jaguar Land Rover Driving Challenge aimed to test teams of two from 13 different nations in an off-road and agility driving challenge. The teams competed as driver and navigator in two time-trials. They had to make sure their team-work, strategic skills, and communication were up to par while driving and navigating a Land Rover Discovery and Jaguar F-TYPE SVR.

The Jaguar F-TYPE SVR was driven during the agility challenge. For this trial, Jaguar Land Rover put together a challenging slalom course with ‘Jaguar Smart Cones.’ Teams had to navigate the continually changing and unpredictable course.

The Land Rover Discovery was driven during the off-road challenge. For this trial, teams had to navigate a challenging urban off-road course designed to test their driving and navigational skills.

In the end, the Netherlands took home the gold, Great Britain finished with the silver, and Denmark came in third.

“Once again we have watched the sheer dedication and commitment of these competitors in the Driving Challenge,” Dr. Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover CEO, said. “We celebrate each and every one of them and everyone around them who played a part in their journey here today: friends, loved ones, family members, professionals. I know everyone at Jaguar Land Rover wishes each of them the very best of luck for the rest of the Games. Everyone is a winner here in Toronto.”

The medals were awarded by Prince Harry, who is the Patron of the Invictus Games Foundation. The Invictus Games will continue to run through September 30.

Inaugural Jaguar Land Rover Tech Fest

Land Rover Austin is excited about Jaguar Land Rover’s announcement this weekend at the Jaguar Land Rover’s inaugural Tech Fest (a free-to-enter festival exploring the future of mobility) in London! Jaguar Land Rover announced that from 2020, all new Jaguar Land Rover vehicles will be offered with an electrified/electric engine!

“Every new Jaguar Land Rover model line will be electrified from 2020, giving our customers more choice,” Dr. Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover Chief Executive Officer, said. “We will introduce a portfolio of electrified products across our model range, embracing fully electric, plug-in hybrid, and mild hybrid vehicles. Our first fully electric performance SUV, the Jaguar I-PACE, goes on sale next year.”

Jaguar Land Rover’s most recent movement towards the future in mobility is Sayer. Sayer is “the first voice activated A1 steering wheel that will be able to carry out hundreds of tasks.” Think Apple’s Siri, or Amazon’s Alexa, on steroids. Sayer’s advanced speech recognition software will enable it to answer questions, select entertainment, organize travel, and connect you to news.

Jaguar Land Rover believes that driving is more than just getting from one place to another. They believe its about living your life while traveling from one place to another to another.

Jaguar Land Rover showcased many of their recent undertakings at the Jaguar Land Rover Tech Fest.

Jaguar Land Rover began to recruit with Gorillaz through an online programming game, Jaguar Land Rover took steps to eliminating waste by using leftover materials to create surfboards, and Jaguar Land Rover continues to pursue driverless vehicles by creating Autonomous Urban Drive.

The Jaguar E-PACE, Jaguar’s compact performance SUV, was recently released to the public. Land Rover’s found a new use for the Discovery in ‘Project Hero,’ a souped up Discovery designed to specifically aid the Austrian Red Cross.

Finally, Jaguar Land Rover shared more about their ‘Lighting Up Lives’ program where they are working to provide ‘clean, safe, renewable solar-powered lamps to families in Kenya.’ They plan to light up the lives of at least 1.2 million people by the year 2020.

Tech Fest 2017 was a rousing success, and Land Rover Austin couldn’t be more proud. To find our more about Land Rover, contact us! We look forward to speaking with you soon!

Land Rover Goes the Extra Mile

Land Rover has always been committed to serving. They have partnered with the Red Cross for 64 years and have worked together on many projects across 4 continents in 24 countries. In 2017, Land Rover wanted to do something more to assist the Red Cross, so they launched Project Hero. Project Hero is a unique version of the all-new Land Rover Discovery.

“This supremely capable vehicle is enhanced by the team of designers and engineers at Special Vehicle Operations through the integration of advanced drone technology,” John Edwards, Managing Director Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations, said.

David Wran-Schume is a part of the Operations and Disaster Management for the Austrian Red Cross. He has been with the Red Cross for 11 years. He and his team were able to test the special version of the Land Rover Discovery.

“We’re up here to test the new Discovery with the drone and to identify how it would fit into the team and what role it can play,” Wran-Schume said. “A few years ago, I couldn’t imagine having access to this technology and being a part of this project.”

“There is a lot of technology packed into the new Discovery, it makes it a lot easier to clear communication channels so that everybody is linked up and ready to go. We get the chance to identify signs of missing people around hazards that can harm our personnel involved.”

The drone built into the new Discovery even comes equipped with infrared technology. Wran-Schume continues, “Infrared camera technology is really useful because you can identify heat sources.”

“For me all these ingredients, the technology, the new discovery, and our own expertise coming together would make a big difference and may ultimately save lives. This could mark the start of a new era in search and rescue.”

Land Rover believes that saving lives is “a duty, a privilege, one of the greatest things one human-being can do for another.” By partnering with the Red Cross to bring them this unique version of the new Discovery, Land Rover is hoping that many more lives are saved.
