Land Rover Austin is proud to announce Jaguar Land Rover North America’s continued support and partnership of the U.S. Armed Forces Team in the Invictus Games. This year’s Invictus Games will be held in Toronto, Canada from September 23-30. In addition, Jaguar Land Rover will be the presenting partner for the Invictus Games Toronto 2017. This year’s Invictus Games will be the largest yet.
550 military competitors from 17 nations will compete across 12 adaptive sports. The U.S. Team has almost 90 former or current service men and women that will compete. Sports include archery, powerlifting, sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball, gold, the Jaguar Land Rover Driving Challenge, and more.
The Invictus Games are currently “the only international adaptive sporting event for wounded, ill, and injured veterans and active-duty service members.” The goal of the Invictus Games is to “use the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation, and generate a wider understanding and respect for these men and women.” The first Invictus Games took place in London in 2014, and the second took place in Orlando, Florida in 2016.
The Invictus Games kicks off with the Jaguar Land Rover Challenge that will take place on Saturday, September 23. Teams of two from 13 different nations will compete as driver and navigator in a two time-trials. One of the trials will use the Jaguar F-TYPE SVR and the other will utilize the All-New Land Rover Discovery. This challenge is aimed to test the teams’ communication, strategic planning skills, and teamwork.
“The men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces Team exemplify the relentless determination of our retired and active-duty service members,” Joe Eberhardt, Jaguar Land Rover, North America, LLC, President and CEO, said. “We are proud to continue our support of the team and wish them the best of luck as they compete at the upcoming Games in Toronto.”
